Full Description

This slide presentation outlines information on developing and evaluating protocols fordecontamination of distribution systems following anintentional contamination event. Topics covered include:existing decontamination approaches;case study of a serious intentional contamination episode;1980 pesticide contamination;review of historical cross-contamination incidents and system recovery operations; and, identification of candidate test contaminants based upon physicaland chemical properties (e.g. log Kow). The experimental strategy included two phases. The first involved contaminant adherence testing including theestablishment of experimental / analytical protocols, and critical test conditions (limited substratum set), andtesting of contaminant suite with a variety of pipesurfaces. The second phase involved alab assessment of chemical decontaminationagents.
