Full Description

This powerpoint presentation outlines an effort by the Kauai Grove Farm Project to convert from groundwater to surface water as the sugar plantation itself was converted from agricultural use to a new housing development. The potential for new developments was restrictedby a limited groundwater supply in theLihue/Puhi area of the island of Kauai in Hawaii. In February 2004 a partnership was created between Grove Farm and the Kauai Department of Water (DOW) that resulted in a water purchase agreement whereGrove Farm proposed to take the lead in buildinga Surface Water Purification Facility. In response to transitional concerns about the affect, if any, thatnew surface water willhave on adistribution systemconditioned fordecades togroundwater, Grove Farm Company andKauai DOW commissioned a study toprovide real-time potential impacts tocustomers in their homes, andexamine conditions ofrelease of galvanizedservice line tuberculation. Topics addressed include: plantation home test site; testing and sampling; six phases of the test schedule; field water quality results; corrosion inhibitor description; purification facility process; and, implementation of study recommendation tofeed inhibitor results in successful transition. Includes tables, figures.
