This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Long Beach Water Department and its desalination program, focusing on the following topics: pretreatment;prototype; and, post-treatment. Presentation conclusions indicate that: pretreatment pilot column testing underwayto help guide/predict demonstration scalesubsurface intake;demonstration subsurface intake currentlyin 7 day performance testing, and preliminaryresults suggest environmental factors areimpacting performance; Prototype Phase I testing completed; all tests met salinity water quality goal;2 Pass NF was able to achieve betterpermeate water quality at slightly lowerenergy consumption; Prototype UV system ready to start testing;ClOsub2/sub bench testing showed rapiddeterioration of membranes, need toperform additional bench testing on "pure"chlorine dioxide;desk top evaluation complete;bench testing near completion, and VTcontinuing to perform lead/tin solder benchexperiments; and,post-treatment design at 90% and anticipateconstruction to begin mid-summer andtesting to begin in late Fall 2008.
