The heat pump system continues to offer a cost-effective alternative to other forms of residential heating. Special consideration must be given when selecting the compressor due to the wide range of suction and discharge pressures during heat pump operation.
The purpose of this paper is to review the evolutionary changes that took place in developing a typical rotary compressor to meet this challenge with long life and reliable performance. Special emphasis is given to the introduction of improved materials used in present compressor design.
